Tripod table lamp

Year

2018

A kind of weird hobby of mine is looking at specialized manufacturing parts websites. I can spend easily a couple of hours browsing thru all parts of the online catalog. This lamp originated out of a site filled with welding parts. Hooks, notches, tubes, caps, plates, you name it. I came across these weld-on corner fittings. I have a hydraulic tube bender but when bending a tube, the outer section of the bent corner stretches, and the inner part of the corner compresses. The material that gets compressed needs somewhere to go, it can't go at the bending shoe (the metal part on which the tube is bent over) so it will go inside and leaves a 'cup' on the inside of the bent. Besides this whole fascinating story.. really sharp bents can't be done with cold steel. So you can buy prefabricated corners, these are sharply angled and don't have a deformed inner corner. My mind said 'tripod'. Amongst heavier designs, it became a cute little table lamp with an E14 lamp fitting.
